Context sheet - Kate Ward

This context sheet shows my designs as well as giving an idea of how my ideas came about ,without seeing the whole of my work. I would like to think that people would recognise this a a large scale hanging. The dodecahedron shapes have a printed embroidery type outer, but I have designed this hanging to be much more interesting by putting nature inside. For example bark like is shown in the image below. The inside of the dodecahedron's would then show a peak to a garden a little but like we do in Manchester at the moment.I choose my design like this, so the outside pieces of the hanging would be in keeping with the new build.

This page is to represent my final visualisation and show the details of my pattern and fabric, also showing that I want my pattern to have shapes cut out so you can see through parts, like my masking tape piece on the window. The other photo is to show where my idea of the shape came from.

This sheet is to represent where my initial ideas came from, the use of colour from this painting by Brian Wildsmith which I then hand dyed felt using some of the colours from it. And also the inspiration to use felt and manipulate it like Anne Kyyro Quinn.

Unit X Launch Party- Ailsa Lishman.

Hi everyone, really loving all your visualisations, they all look really good!
There's the Unit X launch party on Wednesday 23rd, at Hotspur House- it'd be really great if everyone came!
You'll need to get your name onto the guestlist, which you can do by friending the Unitx Launch on facebook-  https://www.facebook.com/UnitXLaunch or going onto the eventbrite website.

Visualisation- Ailsa Lishman.

I created quite a few variations for different visualisations for the new build. These are just a few of them, the rest can be found on my personal blog.
I found that the pillars worked well in showing the space better, and thought they would be a good contrast against the imprinted concrete pillars.

My strong image, taken from my wall pieces i've been experimenting with.

Visualization - Tatum

This is my visualization of my final design. It is a wall that is made of layers of embroidered fabric and stenciling. This piece is inspired by the architecture and cities of Greece and Manchester. The piece is intended to create an interesting and also tactile wall piece that people can interact with while in a social environment.

Final Visualisation- Emma Senior

For my final visualisation I wanted my piece to be hanging somewhere open so that the light could come through my pattern so you can see it more clearly. I used my photographs of my last sample to put together on photoshop to create a pattern, I then put this into a artists representation of the new building. I think my piece works really well in this space as it breaks up the areas so it doesn't feel so open and would also create nice patterns on the floor from the light shining through my piece. I also had to edit the colours of my felt on photoshop as my hand dyed felt didn't come out how I wanted it to, but once it was all finished I was very happy.

This is my final close up that I have also chosen to be displayed on the big screen on Oxford Road I wanted people to see the texture of the felt and also really get to view my pattern properly as you cant see it that well in my visualsation.

Visualisation

I am really pleased with how my final digital images have turned out.  I feel that the wall works well.. The weave is a traditional representation of textile design, but has been given a new edge and design through layering.

Final Digital Output

These are my ideas for my visualisation. In the final output each image will appear on the wall in a rotation, flicking through each of my projections. I feel this will work well as it shows the main part of my work and how my journey has progressed.

This is my strong image. I have thought about what I want my strong image to show. I feel this one represents my work well as texture and shadow are shown through it. I feel it summarizes my work.

Here is my context sheet. I have added inspiration which led me onto my ideas, strong ideas that have been show throughout the project and materials that I have used within my work.

Final images of my weave

I photographed my weave samples using the light table.  I feel these accentuate some of the qualities that i was trying to capture, such as the looser lines where the samples have been seperated.  I feel it also shows off the colours well.

A Book I Bought. Charlotte Sleigh

I really wanted to get a book called 'Pattern in Design Art and Architecture' out of the Library as it was just the kind of resource I was looking for to give me a little bit of inspiration and also I felt it would be quite interesting. I attempted to get it out a few times but it was always taken out by someone else, so I decided to buy it. Inside is full of patterns which cover buildings and interiors. I love how patterns that are part of the outside structures of buildings make them more like a piece of art and you almost forget that they are buildings.

A page that caught my eye was one with 'Persijn Broersen & Margit Lukacs' wallpaper installation on. The photo is of an istallation in Nieuwe Vide Gallery, Haarlem. I love how it looks as though the designer is walking into a hidden paradise somewhere that looks almost secret, I would like to use one of my designs in a room/section of new build so that when your in that area it almost feels like this. It's such a vast open planned space I feel that they could have forgotten about how nice it is to work or sit in a smaller enclosed space.
