Weave samples

I started off with quite a neutral warp and experimented with two different colour palettes for my weft. Above i have selected colours from one of my photographs. I began to introduce warmer tones into the blues and greys of the warp. I feel that this worked surprisingly well. I this sample i also experimented with introducing pattern. Although I feel that pattern making will be done more effectively on the computer through photoshop. So i have stuck to a plain weave for the rest of my samples.

In these set of samples, i chose to try and compliment my warp, using more blue and grey tones. I feel that these yarns work better with my theme of looking at scaffolding, buildings etc. and also tie in well with the idea of a water reflection. I extracted these colours again from my original photographs of the building. Although they do come across quite plain, I am to transform them into an exciting new pattern.

Wall Experimentation- Ailsa Lishman.

I've been working onto the wall these past few days, cutting up my prints, and creating different layers and shapes to see which effects work best.

I mainly stayed with working with my screen prints, however in this last one I also combined some acetates as well, which worked well in holding the structure of the piece. I think the last one is my favourite.

Weaving process

The weave process is a long one... It has taken me a good few days to get the loom set up and get going but today i finally started to make progress with my actual weave. I have begun with just a simple plain weave, but am looking forward to introducing more pattern and colour in to it.  I am looking forward to then trying to digitalise it through the use of photoshop.

Fiona Curran- Ailsa Lishman.

We were shown a really interesting insight into the work of Fiona Curran, who will be part of the team teaching us next year. Curran does a lot of paintings, but also, translates her ideas into spaces. It was this work that I was particularly interested by, as it was very relevant to our project.

This project was to design for a project called 'Designing Identity' for Tatton Park as part of the Biennial in 2010. Curran started from this tiny model of what she wanted to create, which turned into this...

Curran really expressed the importance of visualisation, just so you can even get a small glimpse as to whether your idea is going to work or not.

Curran had to translate her paintings onto a wall as part of a commission for a hospital, I really like how she's worked with the plain white walls, which are generally seen as being very clinical, adding a bit of fun to them, with bright bold colours. Curran has utilized the space well, I think it works really well to have one wall almost completely covered by her work.

This has made me want to try lots more compositions for my final outcome, I think it's quite important to have a few options to choose from.

Selecting final images...

Deadline Information- Ailsa Lishman.

So today we had a meeting with Kate, just a quick summary to make everything clear, incase anyone loses the sheet or missed any information!

- Blog deadline Friday 18th.
- We need to make a context sheet, showing a flavour of your contextual references, materials and inspiration- this needs to be put onto the blog by Friday.
- There is a digital session tomorrow if anyone needs help, with Mary Stark.
- ALL leftover work needs to be cleared out of the studio by Friday 18th.
- Our screening will be on 28th May.

Tutorial- Ailsa Lishman.

So for those that didn't come to the tutorial, just thought i'd give a quick summary.
Basically the deadline to get a digital outcome to Mary is THIS Thursday (17th) - it can be in any digital form, so could be a video, a collection of images, or anything else anyone was thinking of, as long as it's digital. If you're thinking of submitting a series of images, Mary suggested around 3 was a good amount, but you could of course have more/less.

We have a meeting tomorrow at 1.30pm in the studio anyway, so i'm sure everything will become clear for exactly what our digital outcomes need to be!!

Also a reminder that we don't have any more tutorials, Thursday's was the last one.
