Bethan Lumb- Ailsa Lishman.

I signed up for a 3rd year embroidery student talk, to hear about her work and her processes. 
It was really good to hear that she didn't really know what pathway she wanted to go down or what she wanted to do really till 3rd year. I often panic thinking I should know exactly what I should be doing, so it was good to hear that someone like her, who's work looked so done and like she knew exactly where she was going, does also have problems and panics before she gets to that point!
Bethan's work was based very much on mark making, using lots of black and white and tonal colours, drawing to her was fundamental in her work process. 
Her advice to us was don't look at the final outcome too much. 
I think the key to her work being successful is that she started to become less precious about samples, and more experimental, purely focusing on the marks and qualities she could create.
