Rhian Bell- Lauren Bowker talk

I found this talk interesting. Lauren spoke about how she approaches things with an open mind. I loved her piece on the jacket that breathed. She created a jacket using inks made up in the science lab which changes colour with pollution. I liked the idea of using science in art, combining two totally different professions and mixing them together is exciting and very risky. She spoke about how if you have a good idea you can go anywhere with it. You just have to believe in the idea. Being in Manchester helped her make many different friends, she said meeting people was an important thing in the world of art as the more people you know with different professions the more exciting a project can become. I felt this was very inspiring to me. I was really interested in the project she did in combination with two other students, one an engineer and one a graphic designer. Airbus 2050. This is an exciting project which is really interesting!! Doing something totally different to what you’re used to is exciting and taking risks brings that enthusiasm out of you. This got me thinking about how we as textile students should take risks and be wild. Take a wild card and see where you end up, people want to be surprised...
