Manchester Museum Botany Collection- Ailsa Lishman.

I booked to view the Botany Collection at the Manchester Museum, just to see what sort of collections they had, and also to look at how they preserved things.

All the glass jars and bottles lined up in the cupboards, and the stacks and stacks of information stored everywhere, were quite nice to photograph. I like to look at how things are organised and put together.

It's amazing just how many specimens of plants they had stored away in box after box, all in order and categorised by name and where the plant comes from etc.
I also think it's amazing how beautiful all the flowers still look, they've been stored for so long and some are so delicate, that they almost don't look real, like they've been drawn with inks or something.

The collection was really great to see, I really like the pressed flowers and think I will press some of my own. I'm not sure whether I want to create a fresh or an old feel within my work yet, so will experiment with both and see which works best.

  1. Oh my gosh! I had no idea those flowers were real until I read your bit, it would be so amazing if you did re-create them in ink, would look really pretty
