Rhian Bell- A little bit of Knit

I wanted to bring some sort of workshop into my project. I started looking at knit again and started thinking about how I could combine it in to my work. I started to explore colours of threads I wanted to use to relate to my initial ideas; I also did some composition ideas that I might work with. I created these knit samples using a variety of techniques to reflect my idea of hidden things, adding threads into the knits using E-wrapping. I felt these worked well as they are textured and give a sense of something being explored and hidden. The sense of uncovering something...

I started to explore how I could manipulate the shape of the knits twisting, screwing and curling them up to look more textured and interesting.

Following on from last week’s tutorial I have started to wrap knits around balls of polystyrene to make the knits appear looser and more textured.
I think they have worked well.

  1. Really like this Rhian, the threads you've added through the knits work really well. It's quite interesting how you've photographed them as well, having some areas in shadow I think shows the hidden theme well.
